The battle continues to try and save Hastings pier, which has been closed since 2006, and is currently owned by Panamanian firm Ravenclaw Investments Ltd. This off-shore company has refused to carry out the costly repair work needed to reopen the Victorian attraction.
The Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust believes it can make a successful go of things, but in order to attract funding and grants it needs the local authority to invoke a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) - effectively forcing Ravenclaw to sell up.
Ownership would then be immediately transferred to the trust.
The Hastings Observer recently quoted Councillor Richard Stevens as saying: "Our own marketing manager said the pier was 'one storm' away from collapse.
"Time is not on our side and we can't afford the luxury of delay."
