I was shocked to find out they are planning to redevelop the relatively unused Magdalene Convent in Magdalen Road and build a new build block of flats.
These proposals go against the Council's own HASINGS LOCAL PLAN 2004 and the site is also part of the Magdalen Road Conservation Area.
Please help to stop this happening.
Not only is it a beautiful building, which should be preserved, but the green space around it provides a haven and fresh air in this otherwise quite built up area.
I, personally, have no problems with a sympathetic refurbishment of the site which keeps the building intact and doesn't over develop the site. Neither do I have problems generally with new builds like the environmentally sympathetic town houses nearing completion opposite the Convent on Margaret Road. BUT it seems to me we don't have a shortage of empty properties and neither do we need to lose the character of beautiful St Leonards by losing places of architectural interest and beauty.
